        Educational Animal Encounter: Interdependence and Adaptation                            

        Audience: KS2

        Brief Description:

Children will discover 'Who eats who or what?' and 'How do animals avoid being on the menu?'
Children will investigate and discuss animal interdependence and adaptations within a habitat.
Children will have the opportunity to build simple food chains.

        Links to National Curriculum/QCA Schemes of Work:

QCA Unit 6A – Interdependence and Adaptation.
Children should learn that different animals and plants are found in different habitats.
Children should learn how animals and plants in a second habitat are suited to their environment.
NC: Sc2: 1c To know about the links between life processes in familiar animals and plants and their environment.
NC: Sc2: 4a To know about plants and animals found in different habitats.
NC: Sc2: 5c To know how plants and animals in two different habitats are adapted to their habitats.
NC: Sc2: 5d, 5e To know that food chains show feeding relationships and usually start with a green plant.

 Each workshop, presentation and encounter is accompanied by a brief lesson plan indicating lesson outcomes and suggestions for follow up work.
