        Educational Animal Encounter: Teeth and Eating                                             

        Audience: KS2

        Brief Description:

Children will take a close up look at their own Human teeth. Children will investigate teeth and learn that different teeth for used different jobs. We will find out about animal diets and introduce and discuss the terms omnivores, carnivores and herbivores. Children will have the opportunity to answer questions such as 'What does a tarantula eat?' 'How does a rabbit keep its teeth short?' and 'How does and animal eat without teeth?'. Children will have the opportunity to identify ways in which teeth are suited to diet. We will also touch on the subject of the importance of caring for teeth.

NC: Sc2: 1a To know that the life processes common to humans and other animals include nutrition, movement, growth and reproduction.
NC: Sc2: 2a To know about the functions of care and teeth.
NC: Sc2: 2b To know about the need for food for activity and growth, and about the importance of an adequate and varied diet for health.

 Each workshop, presentation and encounter is accompanied by a brief lesson plan indicating lesson outcomes and suggestions for follow up work.
